Hi Guys,

Question, I've got a 1951 Cub ser. 134207 that I just bought not that long ago. I saw a little yellow paint poking through....I powerwashed the tractor today, and most of the red paint flaked off, and it's evident that the entire tractor was yellow at one time........Any ideas on the yellow paint? Were these used by Highway depts? Were there "industrial" Cubs? Thanks, Rob

Rob:

Remember IH would paint any tractor any colour for the right price. This one was probably painted IH Federal Yellow and was probably ordered by a Federal, State or maybe even a Municipal Works Department. Industrial Cubs from what I have come to understand are not really Industrials, just Cubs that came with specific option and were usually painted IH Federal Yellow.

Wasnt there a post a little while back on IH using yellow primer? Could this be what you mean? I've noticed Dad's cub has a little yellow under the red. its a 53. I dont believe this one was ever owned by the county, either.

Bigdog,

I work durring the day then sell a couple tractors here and there on the side. I keep my "40 hour/week" paychecks seperate from my "tractor fund". The little selling I do here and there pays for the tractors that I add to my collection, and justifies the truck and trailer expense as well. Besides, It's fun! So I guess it just depends on how you define a "dealer".

I'll try to post some pictures, but the way this tractor looks, It was Yellow most of it's life, then someone with a few extra red spraypaint cans decided they liked red better. The inside of the fenders and the floorpan was never even painted red-still yellow as can be.......but then under the hood and the front of the gastank is white.....so who knows?

I can see the yellow tractors, but Jim must have eagle-eye vision to be able to tell that they are Cubs. Unless, maybe he's seen a larger, higher resolution version of the photo. :D

They are a bit to the left of the center of the picture. Follow the line of rail cars and they almost point to the yellow tractors. The yellow at the right edge of the picture is some other large piece of equipment, possibly on the airport property.

Yes, I have seen this picture (or another one from the same time) in a much higher resolution.

Another interesting thing that can be seen in the higher resolution copy is about the third rail car back. It is loaded with Super A tractors. The whole car load is industrial versions.
