I recently acquired a 1949 Cub as a gift from my sister in law. I used to mow with this tractor when I was significantly younger and would like to use it again for some light mowing. What mower and size should I look for? I believe it had a Woods on it years ago but that mower has disappeared. I'd really appreciate some advice. I like this tractor a lot.

Would you be mowing pasture or a "lawn"? I have several cubs with Woods 42's and one cub with a Woods 59. I'm mowing pastures, and find the 42 is probably the more versatile of the 2, because it will do a fairly neat cut on low grass, but can handle grass/weeds up to the hood!
The Woods 59 is classified as a "finish mower" and leaves a more 'clean" result, but won't handle taller/coarser grasses as well as the 42. One good thing about the 59, though, is that it leaves less of a windrow of grass cuttings than the 42.

I have the Wood's 42" mower. Doesn't do a city lawn finish but does pretty good. Also own a Mott flail mower. Really good finish mower and you can get close to buildings and trees.
Suggest checking Craigslist for local Cub mounted mowers for sale. Before purchasing, post here with photos and for opinions.
Parts for some mowers are hard to find. Also, you need to make sure the mower mounts to your tractor and that all mounting hardware is present.

The woods 42 and the IH c2 ( one spool two hinged blades) are very good from lawn to pasture cut heights. So if you have a variety of lawn conditions, areas you cut weekly, and areas you cut once or twice a year, these mowers give you more flexibility/options.
If you have a lawn you want to cut and can stay on it week after week a finish mower is a better option - wider deck and better finish cut. The finish mowers are usually 3 spools and put more load on the cub so if the grass does get high on you it will be harder for the cub to handle. You would have to cut it with the deck way up and or take 1/2 passes to get the grass back down.

You'll be able to download an Owner's Manual (very strongly recommended) and any service manuals that interest you. Implement Manuals are also available. There are Woods mower manuals available under "OEM Implement and Attachment Manuals and Brochures".
