122 Muffler

I have ordered what is supposed tp be the OEM style muffler that attatches to the elbow to replace the rotted round muffler. The elbow came with the tractor when I got it, the muffler and clamp should be here soon. Does anyone have a tractor with this style (K301) muffler they could post a picture of? Probably the mounting orientation will be obvious when I have the parts in hand, but I'm trouble visualizing it. Thanks.

Thanks Eugene. My rusted out muffler is like the link you posted. I ran back to the post office and picked up the new one, started soaking the old pipe with Kroil while I battling an electrical glitch that popped up on the Cub. The neighbors should appreciate the new muffler once I get it on!

Just wanted to thank you again, Your pictures helped me figure it out, went without a hitch. Now it sounds like it should.

That style muffler usually has a lock nut holding it place. Punch the lock nut loose and the muffler unscrews.

Thanks Eugene. Mine just had a 1" nipple and the muffler. Soaked it overnight with Kroil, 18" pipe wrench (the 14" was buried in the bottom of the crossbpx) and it came right out. I used some high heat anti seize and a lock nut that in hind sight probably wasn't necessary, but I had it on the elbow. When this one needs replaced I'll prpbably use an aftermarket round one, but the tractor is in such nice shape I've wanted the OEM style since I got it, just put it off until the old one had rusted out!
