Hello all!

So I am researching how to do a 12 v conversion. I know to buy the 12180 alt, 12v coil etc. I have done a lot of reading and searching but I cannot find a basic how to with the one wire alt. Can someone please point me into the right direction for doing this? Thank you!

If the 6 volt electrical wire is still good, use it. If bad, cobbled up, or just plain confusing, rewire the tractor.

This is the diagram I used to rewire my cubs

Possibly a lighting upgrade? Battery availability? Badly tuned hard starting tractor? Parts cost to repair a 6 volt system? My 6 volt tractor starts fine in all temperatures and the lights are fine, I have rigged one led to be 6 volt LED, mainly because of the cost of the pancake bulbs. I personally really like these old tractors kept stock where possible but that is my personal preference.

Unless you just want originality, no need to keep at 6V. Availability and price of 12V components are much better. And for what a decent 6V battery costs, you can get two decent 12V batteries. 6V batteries from tsc have not worked well for me.

12 volt alternators and other 12 volt parts are available at any open auto parts store on Sunday.

You can use your 12 volt converted Cub to jump start the wife's car.

The reason I converted my Cub was, it was the only 6 volt machine on the place.

When my 6 volt charging system went bad the cost to repair it exceeded the cost to convert it to 12 volt so I converted. That gave me quicker, more reliable starts especially in very cold weather, much brighter lights, and easier access to less costly replacement parts.

I went with the Charlie's Repair kit it was complete with the coil the bracket was well made and just about looks factory if you didn't know better, my shop time is so limited any more I'm glad to pay someone else to do the thinking for me, and for what he charges it would be tough for me to beat his price on my own. I kept all my 6 volt parts , I wanted to be able to run lots of lights because I usually do a lot at night once the dew is on the leaves the pollen isn't as bad with my allergies. I used to run the PTO sprayer my Uncle set up on the Cub for spraying his Apple Pear & Peach trees with fungicides & pesticides when I was growing pumpkins, but the self contained ones are so much easier to clean, I have a small one for herbicides for the fence lines and one for pesticides & fertilizer. I have a larger PTO boom sprayer set up for three point on my Allis Chalmers which I'm probably going to fertilize the meadow with at the new place. I am looking forward to the Cub going back to work growing things again, all I've done for the past few years is bush hog the pasture at my mother in law's place.TJ
