100 stalls

Need some help, every once in a while my 100 will sputter and stall. I start it back up and it seems to run fine. I thought it was the carb and still think it is. I sprayed some carb cleaner in it and it still does it. Today I changed the coil; everything else is new, points, plugs and wires. I do not think it is electrical but I had a new coil so I decided to try it. What is the most likely cause of this?

if you remove the plug in the bottom of the carb when it stalls does gas run out good? if not check for dirt in fuel line, or aobve flrat vavle. may even be rust in gas tank the gets over inlet. another thing is to lossen teh gas cap and see if it still stalls.
 
Thanks for the help; it hasn't stalled since I posted this. It has to be something in the fuel line or tank. The tractor sat for about 5 years until about 3 weeks ago. One thing I did before starting it up for the first time in 5 years was drain the gas tank. I should have taken it off and cleaned it out but I was anxious to get it running.
 
Yup i been there not too long ago I blew air into the hose on the carb after cleaning the screen. I guess the passage way from the tank to the bowel was plugged it hasn't stalled since.

I hope you had the carb apart when you applied the air. If not you may have a collapsed float.

BTW, for safety reasons we recommend NOT using hose for a fuel line. That's an excellent way to allow a small fire to become a BIG one. :( :( :(

A few days ago after it starting running rough again I cleaned out the screen at the carb. It needed to be cleaned out. I thought it did the trick but yesterday I took it out again and it stalled. Any other ideas?

Is the glass sediment bowl still intact under your fuel tank??

What does it look like?? Do you have to clean it out frequently??

What does the inside of your gas tank look like??
 
I cleaned out the sediment bowl out when I cleaned the screen. It needed cleaning out also but I don't know when it was cleaned out last.
 
I have only had the tractor about a month and it had sat for about 5 years before I got it. Not sure how often the sediment bowl has to be cleaned. Before starting it for the first time I drained the tank and put in fresh gas. I could not see anything in the bottom of the tank but I was in a hurry to get it running. I should have taken the tank off and cleaned it out.
 
The sediment bowls are made out of glass so you can judge when they need to be cleaned...if they look crummy....they need cleaning...... it's not something to be put on a time schedule....

It might be best to get that tank cleaned out, after all........

How is the vent in the gas cap :?: It may be pluged up causing a vacume in the gas tank :?: Also wich gas cap do you have. The original one :?: The latter style safty cap is taller and is still avabile free.

It may also have a piece of debris floating in the tank that plugs off the tank outlet periodicly. If nothing else works try taking the tank off and thoroughly rinsing it out.
 
I blew air into the fuel line to the tank as it was off the carb at the time and it was just human pressure my 154 was stuck on the front lawn when it finally stalled and it wouldn't restart. I finally cleared the stoppage and its been fine ever since. When your stuck we get desperate. It was my second trip mowing the grass with my new cub.

I removed the bowel and checked the screen above it, i opened the gas valve(shutoff) and still had no gas out of it. I reassembled the bowel/screen and i blew into the hose and i had plenty of gas flow right after. Its been all little simple problems with my cub, I guess its from sitting. The only other problem i had was the clutch adjustment.

Partly. I haven't collapsed any but I repaired several that I think got that way from air pressure. :shock: :(
 
Hi all I finally got around to working on it last weekend. It turned out to be junk in the tank. I took the tank off and cleaned it out which I should have done when I drained the old gas when I first got the tractor. I had to spray some carb cleaner into the carb also. The old gas after sitting for 5 years varnished up, there was slime in the bottom of the tank, I think some got into the carb. Now it is running like new!!
