Hi guys, I been reading about people putting 30 wt oil in there system. I think hy trans is about 10 wt. does anybody have thoughts about this. good or bad. Tia, Ed

There's more to consider than just the viscosity of the oil. The systems were designed for specific lubricants for a purpose and it's worked well for well over half a century so it's hard to make a case that beats success. JMO, I would go with the specified fluids, in this case HyTran or equal hydraulic fluid. Personally I try to avoid mixing different brands/specs fluid. Might not be needed but can't go wrong by not mixing them. Stan

I would use a HyTran or equal hydraulic fluid as @staninlowerAL suggests. Some use thicker oil for well worn systems to get by a little longer or if it is leaking into the crankcase. Better to just fix it. If you need to go that rout make sure it is non-detergent.

One of the unfortunate things about the internet is that it spreads hysteria. Way back when, a hand full of people posted about their hydraulic pumps having leaky seals which allowed the oil from the Touch Control to get into the engine oil pan. People read these accounts and decided that this could cause their Cub (or Super A, 140, etc) to instantly self-destruct. So to prevent this from happening, thus saving their tractor from the salvage yard, they put 30wt. in the Touch Control. Many are quite passionate about it.

Run a good quality hydraulic fluid. IF your pump seal leaks, fix it. I am a believer in Hy-Tran, but now the stuff that caseIH sells really isn't the "genuine" Hy-Tran. The "original" goes by a different name now, but still made by Viscosity Oil Co. https://www.viscosityoilshop.com/pr...l-transmission-hydraulic-fluid-semi-synthetic

Due to lack of easy availability as well as cost, I finally switched from "real" HyTran (which as Super A mentions is not the "original" HyTran) to an equivalent fluid from NAPA. It's still not super cheap, but with five cubs, I buy it by the 5 gallon bucket, which helps a little bit, and I can pick it up locally! (For ease of use, I just keep refilling a 1 gallon jug and keep it handy. 😉)
