Today Rosie and I celebrated 49 years of marriage. There is no doubt in my mind that these have been the best years of my life. She enjoys going to the same places I do whether it is on a twelve hour road trip to a tractor show in Louisiana or a fifteen-minute ride to the AMVETS to enjoy time with our friends. She has blessed me with a beautiful daughter which in turn has resulted in three equally beautiful granddaughters.
When they said “in sickness and in health” Rosanne took those words quite literally. I spent seven days, including our 45th anniversary in the hospital with diverticulitis. She was there every day from the start of visiting hours until the end of the day. When I got home for recovery I was pretty much helpless for several weeks. She was right there taking care of my every need. Fifteen months later I was back in the hospital for another seven days with a more serious case of diverticulitis. The doctor said Rosanne had gotten me to the emergency center just in time. He said I had developed a cyst in my bladder that was about to burst. Another day could have been too late to save me. While I was on the fourth floor, I watched the stork bring in my daughter’s twin babies to her on the second floor. Another eight weeks of recovery and another eight weeks of devoted care from Rosie.
There have been tens of thousands of times Rosanne has been there for me. Without her, the dogs would probably starve because I forget. She keeps track of my appointments because I will forget those as well. Most importantly, she keeps my belly full.
Thank you, Rosanne, for saying yes so many years ago. I couldn’t have survived without you. I love you more than you will ever know.
