Head bolt washers?
I'm having to replace the gasket on my '59 Cub's engine - the tractor was beginning to show white smoke when I first start it - but I don't know if the 15 bolts/cap screws require split washers or not. Anyone have the answer? Thanks!

Re: Head bolt washers?
no washers, make sure to seal the head bolt threads so the coolant does not leak through

Re: Head bolt washers?
If you aren't already doing it, you might consider using NEW headbolts. A future owner/mechanic might thank you!
As Tim said, use thread sealant on the bolts and Copper Coat on the gasket.

And, I always use a thread tap and carefully clean/chase the head bolt threads in the block.
