Independent PTO question

Postby Jameshmyers » Wed Sep 23, 2020 3:32 pm

Hi there,

Have been working on my 300u 1955-56. I was swapping the fluid out of the pto and noticed that where there should be a breather, there was a square plug. Also, what are the two set screws w/ nuts on the right hand side, if standing at the rear of the tractor looking forward to the engine?

Will try to submit a photo when I get to my laptop.

Thanks!

They are the reactor bands. One is the power band, I believe the forward most slotted screw, and the other is the anti-creep or stopping band.

It seemed pretty straight forward to adjust these, as per the manual.

The one issue I am still having is a general loss of power while bush hogging. I am not sure if this is related to the clutch being pretty severely worn (it is, but she still shifts relatively smoothly).

I was going to play with the reactor band adjustments a bit more and see if I can’t get it dialed in.
