PTO shifter shaft

I am getting forgetful, need a little advise can you install a shifter shaft for the PTO without disassembly of the transmission?

Hi,
You don't need to do anything with the forward part of the transmission, under the gear shift lever.

You remove the PTO out the rear of the transmission housing, and then probably the rear cover, so you can get your hand inside the housing.
The PTO shifter shaft, with the pin for the PTO clutch comes out the rear of the housing.

Below is the Cub and LoBoy service manual, it has a PTO section with lots of info.
Disregard the info for the Belt Pulley attachment, if you don't have it.

Drain the transmission oil first, the drain plug is visible from under the platform.
It's a good time to put in new oil in the transmission, if it hasn't been changed lately.
It holds 3 1/2 Pints of 80W-90 gear oil, or Cubs about 1958 and newer, the manual says use Case IH Hy-Tran fluid.
The level plug is low on the left side of the trans. Fill it until oil runs out the hole.
The filler plug is to the rear of the shifter.
