Farmall H hydraulic systems missing.

Postby Catahoula » Mon Apr 13, 2020 5:53 am

I recently purchased a 1945 H model. The complete hydraulic system is missing, and the draw bar is still there. What are my options when looking for a replacement system to install? I am not really worried about keeping it original, and a three point hitch would be useful for me, but not necessary. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim

The hydraulic system (called a Lift-All) was an option on the H. The complete unit installs in the bell housing from the bottom. It is driven by the transmission, which means it stops when the clutch is down. Complete units can be found fairly easily and are usually not that expensive. There is a risk that a unit you find could have a lot of wear which may reduce volume or pressure from the pump.

There are other ways to go other than Lift-All.

If you do a Google search on "farmall H live hydraulics" you'll get a lot of information on ways to put live hydraulics on the tractor.

I also believe you can get PTO driven hydraulic pumps.

If you go with Lift-All be aware that it is relatively low pressure so you need large cylinders. It also only extends the cylinder, retract is driven by implement weight. I understand that with some plumbing you can make it bi-directional but it's still low pressure.

Jim and MiCarl,

Did a little looking around the internet for options as suggested. A lift all system should be enough for my needs and have found a donor tractor. Will go check it out this weekend. Hopefully the hydraulic parts are salvageable.

Live hydraulics would be nice, are the Super H, 300, and M&W pumps compatable with magneto ignitions?

Thanks,

Jim

I did find the answer to my own question. The post below shows a really nice installation of live hydraulics with the magneto installation.
