Wiring a 656 gas w/original alternator 12v system
So we have a 656 gas that from factory had 12v alternator system. However my dad was driving it and the wiring harness caught fire. So i converted the alternator to a single wire alternator and from what im reading im going to have issues making amp light and oil pressure light to work....can anyone give me some insight on the best way to wire this tractor without spending a fortune on a harness...thanks!!!

I believe that even on a single wire alternator, you have the 2 other terminals that are typically used for those lighted features. I'm in the middle of wiring a Farmall M that I just installed a single wire 12-v GM/Delco alternator on, and I know it has the terminals you need, however, I'm not using them so I'm not sure how to tell you to wire it.
Here is the alternator I used, and you can see the 2 terminals:
If you look at some of the 6v to 12v conversions you'll find the wiring schematics and you should be able to figure out the wiring needed, without having to purchase a whole harness.

Could you tell me what group size battery you have in the 656? And does it fit with the cover installed? Thanks

Breon, did you figure this alternator issue out? I am looking at replacing mine as well and would love to know what you learned. Thanks
