Touch Control

Postby wrz » Thu Nov 07, 2019 12:07 pm

Tractor has set about 8 years and the engine started right up (after priming the oil pump). The TC lever could move from the middle all the way back (half of the normal range) with no trouble. With the engine running moving the lever did nothing so added 2 quarts of hytran then just touching the lever it lower the fast hitch all the way down. The lever is almost in the center of the range and can not be moved. Is this a spool valve problem?

I would use a mirror and light and check to see if any parts of the old boot on the spool valve are binding it, and also see if the rest of that linkage is free.

Hi,
The Touch Control lever should move freely through it's full travel, except for some friction at it's base, it has to have some friction, so it doesn't move by itself when the engine is running.

The Control Valve may not be moving through it's full travel, or the linkage may be stuck.
The linkage may need oiling up under the front of the Touch Control.
Don't oil the base of the lever, it has to have some friction. But the lever should move through it's full range.

Below are pages from the Cub parts manual, showing the 360719R1 Touch Control.
You said the Cub has a Fast Hitch, this Touch Control was used when the Fast Hitch came out, if the Cub is a late 1954, or newer.
If it is one of your LoBoy's, the manual says this Touch Control was used on all LoBoys.
The Control Valve is number 21 in the pic. :)
