F 12 New Project

Postby Sailor » Thu Jun 06, 2019 10:44 am

Having recently finished a 23 month restoration on my Cub, I think I'm ready for another project. I've been leaning toward the F 12. I've talked with several owners over the last year trying to find out what parts should be on the tractor, before I pull out my wallet. But I've never asked, what part, if not on the tractor, will kill the deal. There has to be a part or parts that if missing will never be found.

I would appreciate any assistance.

Thanks, Larry

Larry, I can't tell you much, if anything, on a F-12, but I am looking forward to the progress you make on one. I think the F series are neat tractors - I love the looks of them.

If you don't have any manuals, the service manual plus an operator's manual is in the pdf manual section now. The operator's manual covers the F14, but it probably is pretty similar to the F12 enough to help. Dennis recently loaded these in that section.

You might have seen this thread on a '34 F-12 restoration. The last picture shows the finished tractor, and it was a beaut.

Thanks, T-Mo. I agree, Dusti did an outstanding job on that tractor.

No luck with the hunt for a decent F-12. I did find what appears to be a very nice F-14 which I'll be checking out tomorrow.
T-Mo, thanks for uploading that info on the F-series, it will be a valuable assent when I eyeball this tractor.

Well I didn't have any luck with my hunt for the F-12... but I did find a F-14 that appears to be in real good shape. It's got a hood from a F-20/30 that has an enlarged hole for the exhaust pipe. The site glass had a lot of residue in it, the gas smelled bad and the tank had a layer of rust in the bottom so I declined his offer to get it started for me. I did turn the engine over and it has good compression so I'll just wait till I get some time to go through my new toy.

Nice. The F-14 was just a more powerful version of the F-12, with some other changes. It replaced the F-12, I believe - someone who is more knowledgeable can correct me if I'm wrong.

Here is the 1938 Nebraska field test report on the F-14.

Upgraded F-12.
- higher compression, maybe spun the engine a little faster
- raised steering wheel with different seat
- added vent on rocker cover
Probably something else I'm not thinking of.

T-Mo, thanks for doing the research and providing that info for me.

Jim, all of us here on this forum are very fortunate to have knowledgeable members like you, who have amassed so much information about these tractors and are willing to share that information.

I am hoping to have a horde of people with the same knowledge/experience level as the Cub forum. Maybe the pleas of a F-series "newbe" will result in a flurry of responses.
