Wisconsin VH4D motor

Postby SONNY » Thu Dec 10, 2020 11:34 am

ole vh4d blew a head the other day and that got interesting! --- its in my case 1530 skidloader and I was spreading compost when it blew. -- Had head gaskets blow before but never a head.
Got an old parts motor with the loader and took a head off it, now need gaskets and also the manifold has a chunk broke off near the left intake port. might be why it was always hard to start when cold.
Wanted to use it this winter for snow removal but that is out so its back to the big 781 and the Deutz diesel which has to be heated before it will start. I love the little case since its small an fits in little places, also dont tear up the ground as much when turning.

I see you have the broken piece, why not have a weld shop braze it?

V4, air cooled. Used in many applications such as bailers, combines, skid steers.

Just looked up the asking prices for the VH4D. Almost 4 times what I paid for the 610 Bobcat skidsteer with that engine 25 years ago.
I have an excuse. CRS.

we had a few balers when I was a kid with the V4 Wisconsin engines, our first bobcat had that as well.

I can weld it myself BUT its made out of "dirty" cast iron on the Wisconsin motors and dont weld for crap so I am not messin with it. --- still lookin for a used one that has the exhaust coming out the top and not out the back. ---no room for the elbow on the back----would hit hydraulic and gas lines plus the cross beam of the loader.
Space is at a premium in the loader. ---- wanted to find some other motor that would fit in the space and junk the Wisconsin. Its only 30 hp and needs 60 min. to actually run the loader. the 1530 is a mechanical drive machine ( not hydro), with 4 wet clutches for drive/steering plus a variable drive belt pulley on the outside. Miter box turns power 90 degrees to run the belt and hydraulic pump is mounted on the other side of box. ---- very complicated set-up and Uni-loader Inc. screwed up thinking that they could run all this on 30 hp! LOL!! It does o.k. just messin around and scratchin with it but for the serious work I have to get the NH 781 out.
