Shade for Tractor Step One

Postby BIGHOSS » Fri Aug 10, 2018 2:40 pm

Step One:
After spending several days in the hay field a few weeks ago in 95 deg. hot TN sunshine, I decided that I needed some relief! So this morning with the help of a buddy, a set of ROPS was installed. This is my Ford 3000 (One of the best tractors ever made) which is my main go to tractor with it's "new" used roll bars.

Step Two will be a canopy (Stay Tuned).

Good deal,Ron. BTW, what is the bank of gauges above the instrument panel?

Looking good, it’s amazing how much better it feels on a tractor with a little shade.

Roy the gauges are in a "custom" housing to supplement the idiot lights for oil pressure and charging. Also, notice the small bullet shaped amber light on top of cluster housing. It is wired to the head lights as a reminder to "Turn off lights, dummy". Still doesn't work though!

Shane, I have been told that a canopy will lower temp from 10 to 15 degrees on a hot day. Looking forward to that.

This is the canopy that I am considering: https://louisville.craigslist.org/grd/d ... 95312.html

check with your State on ag stuff, here in NY they have a "rops" program, they paid me 85% of the cost parts and labor to put that on the tractor, many states have this program

Years ago had a little "headlight minder" buzzer wired into the fuse box on my '68 model truck that buzzed when the lights were on and ignition off. Was googling it to see if they were still around and found some way to expensive and then I came across this DIY version. Didn't realize it was this simple.

Now I will be so cool! Happy how this project turned out. Weather permitting, I will cut and bale hay next week.,
