Barn Find Chevy

Got a project that you are working on that is not a tractor? Maybe a barn to hold your tractors or just fun stuff like woodworking, glass, tools, sheds, gardens, custom implements, etc., this is the place to talk about it.

It's not much to look at since parts are being shed. I've got the dolly built that will hold the body once lifted. Probably going to put the body in storage while I work on the frame and the drive train.

Lots of good stuff going on.........should have pictures in a week or two. Engine should be near complete if the UPS man visits this week. Frame is ready to sandblast when we get better weather. Already have some suspension components ready to bolt on. I feel like I'm still on target to have a rolling chassis by late spring/early summer. :D

I wonder why the engine always gets done first in projects? That LS4 sure could use the"help" I am sure you put into it. The automotive manufacturers sure struggled to meet even simple emission requirements in those days.

I think I am about to build a new motor for my toy as well. The clutch is a bear to operate and I have to pull the motor and trans to put in a centerforce, so I may as well freshen things up a bit. I have had the parts for years and now I have a little time.

Actually I finished the differential before the engine, but when you have limited shop space as I do, I want all the components on the chassis completed when I roll it out to storage and bring the body in. I get your drift on the LS4, "help". The car will be street legal......but more in the manor of a Baldwin Motion car 8)

No better place to store the parts than on the car.

Engines get done first because they're easy. Body work is a pain in the asp. Ha ha!

He gonna have to tighten up a little bit and keep us better informed! :-). I popped over to his place a few weeks ago for a cub express, looked to me like it's going to be one fine job.

I'll be updating soon. The motor is alive and I have a rolling chassis. I am about a third of the way into the body work. I get side tracked from time to time, but I try not to let dust settle on this project. I enjoy it too much. :-)

Here's the rolling chassis. I still have to run the exhaust, shift module vacuum line on the transmission, and fix a leak on the steering ram. Probably one good day's work.

Here's the engine. Factory as a LS4. But rebuilt with domed Pistons, better cam and intake. Stayed with the factory heads but had them ported and larger exhaust valves. Roller tip rockers and double timing chain. Rebuilt the stock quadrajet carb. And it stayed within budget. :-:-): It sound pretty raucous.....so no more test fires until the exhaust is on.
Image
Totally new rear suspension. Single fiberglass lead but with dual mounts. Bilstein<sp> shocks, stock differential, went through it completely.
Image
As far as the body, been going at it at fair pace. By far the more arduous task of rebuild. Most all of the multiple layers of paint have been removed, one small repair made to the tub area behind the seats. The front clip was sagging so I shored that up with new rivets and some fiberglass. I've just started work on the metal cage around passenger compartment. No rust throughs thank goodness, but a fair amount of surface rust to remove. It's a lengthy process for sure......But I do enjoy it.
Back to the tractors though once it's done.
