Barn Find Chevy

Got a project that you are working on that is not a tractor? Maybe a barn to hold your tractors or just fun stuff like woodworking, glass, tools, sheds, gardens, custom implements, etc., this is the place to talk about it.

Barn Find Chevy

Postby Harold R » Sat Aug 08, 2015 5:56 pm

I'd been hagling with this fellow for a couple of years over this car. He originally approached me, but after a casual look at it, I felt it wasnt worth the asking price. So the dance began. Back and forth......for two years. A couple of weeks ago he called, said come get it......just bring whatever I felt it was worth. I think his wife wanted it gone.....but whatever motivated him......I didn't give him a chance to change his mind. It appears the car hasn't been driven since 1985, but it's all there, number matching. It's a '73. Not my prime choice, but should make for a nice redo. I plan on some engine mods, and a color change.......but mostly going back to it's original state. I had to trailer it home of course, but I'm sure our friend Mike O'Rourke would be relieved.......since he ended up towing my last, " you can drive it home" Chevy project.
Image

If I told you it had a rats nest under the hood that totally covered the motor, you might think I was kidding......
Image
I was able to blast most of it away with a pressure washer and allow this little jewel to see the light of day for the first time in probably 20 years.
Image
I already have what was left of the interior, out of the car......hopefully within the next month or so will have the body off. Will post pics along this journey if there's interest. I do still tinker with the cubs......but they're all running pretty good right now......nothing to do but enjoy them. :)

Nice find! It makes you wonder why a car like that was only driven 12 years and then parked for another 30 just to waste away.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Thanks. What I was told, it was bought new in east Texas by a guy in the military. After a few years he was transfered to a base in California, and decided to leave it with his folks instead driving it all they way out there. Once out there, he got married, started a family, and just lost interest in it. (Seems like the oil embargo hit about that time). Ended up having his Dad sell it. However, I have no way of verifying if that's the story or not.

You gonna have it finished by Deep South?

 Maybe DSCF 2017.

I don't know Mr. E, if you can get Mr. Billy Ray to use his influence and get that road paved.

Bring it over. Ole Foose and me wanna ride!

About that ride Mr E ! Harold R's engine mods. are a bit spunky to put it mildly.. I think I saw a drop down oxygen mask in the last project. :D

I was going to say "That engine will hold water!", but when a little pressure is applied, I see it won't. Glad to see you started cleaning/removing/redoing it. Already looking better.

And yes, there's enough interest here for you to continue posting pics of your progress. So, by all means, post 'em! :D

Now that's a project! At least fiberglass doesn't rust. Enjoy the ride Harold.

Yep, it's an LS-4, with the Turbo 400 tranny. I'll try and get some pics up later.
