Re: Something is taking root in the barnyard
Translucent panels. When I had the shop building built on the acreage I had sections of translucent panels installed on the north side of the building at construction time. They let in enough light to see where you were going, but not working.
I went to the hardware store and purchased one more panel. Cut the panel in half. Installed 1/2 of the panel in a south and west facing door. Really lit up the shop.

I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Something is taking root in the barnyard
Some much needed progress today. My buddy Jeff, the friend who put the new roof on BOB a few years ago, showed up this morning with his bobcat and another friend put five of his dump trucks to work hauling in the driveway material.
Jeff had some time between truck loads to regrade the mess I had between BOB and the new barn.
He got through the side fast enough he decided to grade all around the new building.
The builder finally has all the red siding up. Time to tackle the wainscot and trim along with a few smaller things until the overhead doors can be hung.
Jeff has 90% of the drive in. Tomorrow he plans to have the fill brought in to level the barn floor. Saturday at 8:00 AM he has the first load of the 45 yards of concrete scheduled to arrive.

Thanks Bill, BOB is currently storing two trailer loads of siding he was supposed to have received this past fall and spring, but unfortunately his neighbor has taken the front seat for now.

Finally, the floor goes in. Forty six yards of concrete started arriving at eight this morning. Jeff is currently troweling it. He said it may take until eight tonight.

Bill,
Just curious, what's the going rate for a yard of concrete - just the material?

All the places around here are $97.00 a yard plus tax. We also had a $4.00 per yard Saturday delivery.

Bill that sure is going to be a posh barn, both outside and inside. I have lived in a lot worse places. It's gonna be the last word in luxury for cubs.

I think you need to go give BOB a big hug. Poor thing's gotta be a little worried about what's going to happen to him with that new fancy schmancy palace going up in his shadow.gitractorman wrote:BOB looks so scared there, planks weathered and falling off, and being put to shame by this sassy new pole barn..... Supposed to ........ BOB in the "back seat"........ Yep it's started already.Barnyard wrote:Thanks Bill, BOB is currently storing two trailer loads of siding he was supposed to have received this past fall and spring, but unfortunately his neighbor has taken the front seat for now.

Jeff, Bob was supposed to have gotten the new siding. That will still happen, just later than planned.

Re: Something is taking root in the barnyard
All the siding is up. The door man started this morning. He put up all but the upper panels. Tomorrow he will install the top panels and hardware. I had wanted windows in the one fourteen foot door but the panels on that door are about two or three inches taller than the others. That meant the windows would have been about six inches higher than the other windows and would have looked funny, Besides that I would not been able to look out them with out standing on tiptoes. I decided to leave those out. Once the doors are done and the contractor finishes a few insde braces it will be ready for final inspection. Hopefully the inspection will be done by next Saturday.

Re: Something is taking root in the barnyard
Bill, are you going to have a concrete apron poured in front of the doors or just leave that in road base/gravel?

Bob
Bob, I have pretty much burned up the cub fund . It will stay road base/gravel for now and probably quite awhile. The blacktop grindings pack real nice yet makes it comfortable to walk on. I like it a lot better than the limestone on the other drive.
