IH Dealership Signage

Got a project that you are working on that is not a tractor? Maybe a barn to hold your tractors or just fun stuff like woodworking, glass, tools, sheds, gardens, custom implements, etc., this is the place to talk about it.

IH Dealership Signage

Postby Stanton » Mon Jan 07, 2019 8:27 pm

Attended the 2018 IHCC Collector's Auction up in Wahoo, NE last November; collectibles, especially signs, sold for high dollar. Well, higher than I wanted to pay.

I've seen advertising and reproductions of dealerships, including the signs they mounted above the Service counter. So, over the years I've collected pictures off the net and using my drafting skills, came up with a reasonable facsimile of some signs I wanted to hang in my workshop. I know you've seen them too:

For sale on ebay.

Had started this project months ago, then the Wahoo auction finally pushed me over the edge. Finished cutting and gluing last week. Smaller lettering is about 4" tall, larger about 6". Was warm enough to shoot primer and paint on Saturday. I'm using Krylon primer with Ace Rust Stop International Blue implement paint. Had (4) bays between posts in the end of the barn, so put one in each one:

I like the way they turned out.

Stanton, If you had made two sets, the second set would have sold on the Vine the day before yesterday. Nice job.

Hard to tell them from the real thing!

I love old IH signs, sadly most of them are out of my price range.

There are some images and stuff that show how to make/paint the IH emblem so it looks “right.” I made this up earlier this fall—still have to get it hung in my shop. I’d like to try to make another, larger one for the outside.

Great job, Al. Looks very proportional to the original.

Is that about a 12"x12"? Material?

Yeah I tried to do it according to the proportions IH published. The white part is 30" or so. I want to make a replica of the tall IH signs they used in the 70s and 80s but I'd like to do it in some sort of metal so it'll last longer.

The original signs sell for crazy money. I can't swing that......

Stanton - I would love to make a set of the International McCormick Parts Service signs. Would you have a pattern or font for the lettering?
Thanks.
