Stanton's Cancer Treatment - Part 3 (and Final)

Postby Stanton » Fri Jul 08, 2022 9:44 am

Update on my health and chemo treatment for the pancreatic cancer they found.

I have decided to conclude the chemo treatment yesterday. We informed the doctor this week that I was seriously considering stopping at #6 of #12 suggested rounds of this chemical cocktail. I won't bore you with my decision making process. Suffice it to say that the 12 treatments were intended for people who did not have the tumor removed and the chemo is amped up to attack that growth. That's not my case. I had surgery where they successfully removed the tumor (Whipple surgery) and the post surgery scan showed no remaining cancer. The doctor said he just needed to know my decision so he can switch me over to a scan schedule which would begin soon and for every 3 months for about a year, then lengthen that to 6 month scans as long as no cancer comes back. He said that 6 treatments were better than none and many people on the same regiment dropped out early. I agreed.

Now, as I begin to reclaim my strength back, I'm looking forward to getting Nellie ('47 Cub, SN#2116) assembled and running again. Top priority!

Just want you all to know how much I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Your support has been great. I'm blessed with friends on many sides and it has made this ordeal more of a positive than a negative.

I thank the Lord for each of you!

Stanton, I'm sure you carefully weighed your options, and won't miss 6 more rounds of chemo. Hoping you get your strength back quickly and life returns closer to normal.

I respect your decision. I'm sure you spent much time and prayer on your decision and I'm sure it is the correct decision. Sometimes chemo can beat a person down so badly that it can cause other issues. I have been and will continue to pray that you will receive continued healing.

Continuous prayers for your health. From what I have been told, chemo takes a lot out of a person, so if it's not necessary to receive it, then it's probably a good decision to stop after 6.

Stanton,

Glad to hear that you are progressing in your treatment. It is hard to know exactly what is the right move on things like this, and I am sure your choice what made, by weighing all options.
I hope and pray that you continue to improve, and can continue to enjoy good health for many years.

Thanks, everyone.

I wanted this 6th (and last) round of chemo, but it's been the beat-all of me yet. The accumulative effect on this medicine is evident. Glad I've decided to not undergo the remaining 6 treatments.

Blessings to all for a great summer and enjoying it!
