New ride

Postby Peter Person » Sat Aug 20, 2022 8:14 pm

Picked up this 2010 Malibu LT2 this morning after a 5 1/2 hour trip to Dillsburg, PA with Aron.
18,600 original one owner miles.
I have a 2012 Malibu LT with 194,000 miles on it that is our youngest daughter Anneliese’s ride until it’s ready for the scrapyard.
My 2006 Silverado has 261,000 miles on it, runs great, lots of body rust, and with the price of gas, I’m spending $90-100 per week commuting to work. Can’t afford a replacement truck anytime soon, so this will be my commuter car.
…and of course, it’s the right color! Red Jewel Tintcoat.

Nice looking car.

Purchased my 1995 Dodge 1500 pickup about 10 years ago. It's currently worth more in current dollars than I paid for it. Considering the price for used vehichles, I'm just going to keep patching it up.

Use to purchase used, running, Chevy pickups for $100-. That was about 2 1/2 weeks work for a kid getting paid $1.00 per hour.

Several single cylinder Honda motorcycles from the early 70's. Adding more junk all the time.

Nice car, and it looks great. Hard to find a decent deal these days, that dont have a bunch of miles on it.

We went car shopping yesterday, looking for a new ride for our youngest daughter, who will graduate college this December.
Anything that was 2 or 3 years old, with under 40 K, was almost as much as the new ones.

High mileage stuff, that is 5 - years old still bringing close to $16,000 or more with 90,000 or more miles on it.

I just can warm up to paying that much for cars with that many miles on them. Lucky for us, we dont have to move on one right now, and maybe things will look better in 8 to 10 months.

Backstory on this car…
Adult children settling their deceased parents estate. Three (3) 2005-2010 vehicles, each with less than 20,000 miles. Brought them to Bob Ruth Ford in Dillsburg, PA late July, dealer bought them, cleaned and serviced, new tires(not junk offbrand either), and listed them beginning of August.
Autotrader search for 2010-2012 Malibu with less than 100,000 miles, no accidents, anywhere in the lower 48 yielded quite a number of cars. Added a few more filters, and this one shows up near the beginning of lowest-to-highest price.
Original window sticker $27,320.
Paid $12,500 plus tax, dealer and registration fees.
Basically a brand new car with only 18,600 miles on it.

My next door neighbor, elderly lady, died. She owned a 10 year old, mid sized Pontiac with 9000 miles on it. Her only heir traded the car in on a new Chevy truck.
