Pea shellers

I’m looking to buy a pea sheller. There are not a lot of options between small personal use shellers and large commercial ones. I’m strongly considering the Taylor model 675 “little pea” sheller. Does anyone have any experience with this sheller or any other for that matter that they could provide some insight on.

Always wanted one, just could not see the price!

Never saw one in person, and really dont know if it would really work for me since I grow snow peas.

Would only need it if the peas get overly mature to warrant shelling!

Those purple hull peas dont look nothing like I am used to!

I’ve seen that video. I like what I see. I think I could easily make the money back in a season. I’ve certainly got enough peas planted this spring and I could plant another round after my corn. Customers said they would have gladly paid much more for shelled peas last summer

I just saw your statement about purple hull peas looking like nothing you were used to. They’re a southern pea and kin to a black eye pea. There are numerous varieties of southern peas and they are often referred to as cow peas as they were historically grown to be grazed by cattle. They are a staple in southern gardens. They are often harvested dry and store well that way. There is nothing like them when fresh though and they freeze well fresh. They will grow well in poor soil and are pretty drought tolerant

Best pea? Mississppi pinkeye purple hull! I grow them every year. I have an excellent pea sheller. Her name is Darci. Shhhhh….don’t tell her!

Mississippi purple hulls are great peas. The regular pink eye purple hulls grow a little more upright for me in my garden than the Mississippi purple hulls and are easier to pick. Might not be the same everywhere but that’s what I’ve found at my farm
