I know this is a double post, but I thought it might be good here also.
A couple words of caution about viewing the eclipse: If you plan to use a welding helmet the filter needs to be #13 or darker. Also most of the automatic helmets do not darken when pointed toward the sun, so do not plan to use one of them, even though they can be adjusted dark enough. Walmart is selling the glasses for $1 per pair, and you can get them as cheap as $5 for 12 pair on Amazon.

John,
From what I'm hearing, all of the hotels in Desoto, Festus, etc., area are booked. I heard up to 30,000 people will be in Desoto the 21st. An extra million drivers on the road in Missouri on that day. It might be a good day for me to stay home from work.

I am about midway between the center line and the southern edge, so I think I will just sit in yard. Being retired is tough.

SCI (Science Channel) is advertising that they will be providing live coverage. Not sure if that's along the entire eclipse path.

Here is a thought. If all the news medias are correct in the number of people coming in to their local areas to watch the eclipse, will the earth tilt more ? The eclipse runs from Oregon to South Carolina. What could happen ?
Not serious, just a little humor at all the hype of an eclipse.
Yes I live inline of the best viewing, and not real thrilled.

Re: Eclipse caution
Sputniknews.com, a Russian internet news station in English, has an article on all the possible problems that local official may have to deal with during the solar eclipse.
OK. I read quite a number of internet news sites from around the world.
So, don't give me a hard time about that, Dubai is building skyscraper a mile high. The skyscraper is going to effect the earth's wind circulation and possibly disrupt the earth's wobble more then the influx of people viewing the total solar eclipse.

Re: Eclipse caution
Solar viewing glasses were available at my local grocery store. $1.50 each (pair). Meets ISO requirement.
Heavy paper construction. Should be satisfactory for one time usage.
Edit: Yesterday the local grocery store was stocking 2017 eclipse Tee shirts, $9.99 each. Also has several signs reminding folks to purchase solar eclipse glasses.
