I have a 154 loboy & I have the clutch out but I also want to inspect the clutch brake pads while i'm in there. I have an I&T shop manual & the 154 owners manual but they havent helped. I can't figure out how to: either remove the rear flywheel or the clutch brake arm to give enough clearance to slide the pucks back & up. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Ed

If you look down at the transmission, there's a plate that runs across the front, behind the clutch. One large, short bolt on each side secures it to the transmission. Take the rod loose from the clutch brake bracket, then remove the large bolts, and you can slide the entire clutch brake bracket up and out of the machine.

Also Ed, you slide the brake buttons FORWARD (not backwards) and up

Re: Remove clutch brake pucks?
Does the clutch need to be out of tractor to install these pucks. When I press pedal it grunts alittle but not to shift into gear with out grinding. I do not see these on the tractor how ever. I have a 154 loboy not sure of year.

They are probably worn down to nothing. Need to replace to save the transmission from grinding.

Re: Remove clutch brake pucks?
I been testing brake material on my cub cadets with disc brakes. I’m using epoxy from Silicon Valley. So far in the weather it’s been holding up. I been changing my cub cadets over to disc brakes. I wonder if the thicker brake material can be glued to the puck plate?
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Re: Remove clutch brake pucks?
There are several youtube videos about replacing the pucks on the 154 and 185 with different (harder) materials. None really come back years later to update the video about the longevity or damage caused.
Harder materials will likely last longer, but cause more wear to the rear flywheel. I guess these machines have exceeded their designed lifespan so the original design was good enough. Would have been nice to see this done with a brake pad that spread out the wear over a larger surface.

Re: Remove clutch brake pucks?
I just replaced most of my clutch. For weeks I have been readjusting (tightening) those clutch brakes. Even with all new linkage parts, its seems like more of an art than a science....good luck with yours!
