3160a mower lockout?

Postby Danson88 » Tue Aug 03, 2021 7:34 pm

Hi all, newbie here, searched but couldn’t find anything on it

I’ve got a lo boy 154 with a 3160a mower deck and a 3 point hitch that somebody added on at some point. The 3 point has the lockout bar, but I was wondering if there’s any way to lock the mower deck, so when I want to use the 3 point I do lbt have to wait around on the deck to max out before the 3 point starts working? Does that question even make sense? I’ve only worked the 3 point once to make sure it worked, so forgive me if I’m just being silly :)

There is a diverter valve that switches hydraulic oil flow from mower to 3 point. Other, more knowledgeable folks will be alone shortly to give a more in depth answer, or correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi bill, unfortunately mine doesn’t have the diverter valve, just a “T” where the hydraulic systems splits. I think I read something in one of the manuals about a mechanical lockout using a bolt thru a threaded boss on the left side of the frame, near the clutch pedal, but there’s nothing in that area on the deck that would interact with that bolt. I just figured I’d ask if there was a factory type solution before I try to fab something

That bolt limits how far out the mid-hydraulic cylinder can extend - - the rock shaft can move - - lift the mower deck or implement attached to it.

Chain the mower deck into the up position and lengthen the bolt/adjustment screw down. This will shorten/limit the movement of the mid-hydraulic cylinder and transfer the hydraulic fluid to the 3-point.
I have an excuse. CRS.

You won't regret adding the hydraulic diverter valve. It really makes the hydraulic system shine!

Without the diverter, it will lift whichever implement is lightest first.
I've had the Tee with the lockout bar and it is REALLY inconvenient. I have since added the diverter and haven't been happier with the system.

As Eugene says, adjust the rockshaft stop bolt to limit the mower movement. If you want to lockout the 3-point, install a ball valve where the hose connects to the rear cylinder.
I've done this, it works, but not as handy as the diverter valve.

I was thinking about adding a regular valve by itself to run the 3-pt. on mine IF I ever try to fix the broken frame.---- right not its a parts unit the way it sits. Might should thke that motor and put in my 185, jury still out on that one!

I did realize that I was simply missing the adjustment/lockout bolt, grabbed one + a nut from the hardware store and we’re in business now. It’s definately tedious to swap back and forth from using the mower to using the 3 point but power tools make it bearable!
