My 154 over oils the points so I have to clean them every time I mow lawn. Tonight was the night to replace O Ring.
It all came apart fine till I got to remove O Ring. Retainer # 353899r1 is more than a washer and holds o Ring on 3 sides.
Picked old O ring out with a small wire . Cleaned up sealing area on shaft with a strip of emery twisted into a fat string.
Thought about using a Redi sleeve for worn area on shaft but it is an odd size at .490 thousands inch.
Rivet for gear is .124 th so gas welding rod worked for that. Protected gear with a small screw hose clamp while clinching rivet.
I did not see anything in manuals about inside of dist so that is why I posted this.

Did you replace the bushing? Is so did you drill the bushing? viewtopic.php?f=1&t=109022
I took my distributor tow work and put it on a lathe and used 220 emery cloth to smooth the shaft. There is still a small grove where the o-ring is. But I think it will still seal.

I did not replace the bushing as mine had no side movement. Shaft was perfect also as same size on wear area and non wear area.
Groove from O ring was about .002-.003 deep. Emery cloth twisted into a string was able to smooth groove but now a smooth groove.

Hi,
If oil runs through the Battery Ignition unit, it is probably coming from the oil seal at the base of the unit. The seal is on the drive for the unit. It keeps motor oil out of the Battery Ignition unit.
They sort of commonly leak and need replacing.
It is a regular oil seal.
TM Tractor at the bottom of the page sells them.
Below are pics.

I replaced oil seal #450313 as shown in your pictures. Have to wait till the grass grows next season to see if it works . Old seal did not exactly want to fall out I will say that. I did not know there was a seal there till you pointed it out. Thank you.
