I went to my farm this past weekend. Mowed grass for 6 hours with my cub. It’s not fast but does a great job. We finally got some rain down there, about an inch and a half in about two hours. That’s the only rain of any significance in over three weeks. My potatoes and peas are looking fine, my corn is looking pitiful. I’m certainly not going to have a great crop like last year. I worked in my tomato garden today. They are looking great. I suckered and tied up about 400 plants. Everything there got side dressed with the first round of calcium nitrate fertilizer today. With any luck I’ll get a little rain the end of the week to get that fertilizer in the ground. I’ve got tomatoes about the size of golf balls on a bunch of plants

The gardens are going pretty good in spite of the lack of rain here in NC. I harvested my potatoes this past Saturday. I planted about 30 pounds of seed potatoes and harvested about 175 pounds. I had red pontiacs, kennebecs, and Yukon golds. The red pontiacs produced as much as the other two combined. I’ve been watering my tomatoes at least every other day. I picked a few last week and picked about a five gallon bucket full today. I ate my first blt of the summer today. My peas are looking decent but corn is going to be poor this season. We need rain very bad here

Local farmers market prices: $2- a pound for tomatoes, green beans, and new potatoes.

It's been two years since we have had any vendors for garden produce. Prices are double from previous farmers markets.

Onions about ready to harvest/process or dispose of somehow! gonna have WAY too many this year again.
Getting a bit of light rain here today, ---it will help a tad bit. Been dry all summer and I am not able to carry as much water as the garden needs. tomatoes are big bushes now, green golf ball size tomatoes set, first sweetcorn pollinated and growing. all of the potatoes look decent. carrots and beets are big enough to start on.
Weeds are the current problem!lol!

Been pulling yellow zucchini, zucchini, summer squash, and peppers out of the garden since the 1st of July. 3lbs of Kale from the early crop blanched and frozen, only 3 worms! Picked the 1st green beans on Thursday. Garlic is almost ready to harvest. Beets will be picked and pickled and shredded & frozen this week.
Still a week before tomatoes and cucumbers.

Added a little bling to the gate for Donna’s birthday.

Been picking cukes for a week. First ripe tomato today.
Finally getting some rain this evening.

I picked my first ever garlic Saturday and a jumbo onion.

Replanted those spots with more onions.

Been real dry here for most of June amd July.

The "chemo" garden was hit and miss.

The Contender green beans were as close to a failure as you can get. Most didn't sprout and come up. Been growing beans for years and never had that problem before. Won't be buying seed from the same place next year!

The white onions currently have medium-sized bulbs with greens that are about 3'-0" tall. Don't recall onions supposed to have that much "green", but they taste good.

Two heirloom varieties of tomatoes, purple and yellow, and the Roma tomatoes have a pretty good number of green 'maters on them. So, it'll be another week(?) before the blush and be ready to pick/eat.

Have a garlic plant my neighbor gave me, along with some I planted. It's doing well. Never grew garlic before. What's a good sign it's ready to pick?

Potatoes did well. Harvested 8 hills; 4 Pontiac red and 4 Kennebec. Been having fried potatoes! Also been using a recipe from Silver Dollar City for their "Calico Potatoes" (sweet and regular potatoes, onions, carrots, and hickory smoked sausage). Delicious!

3 or 4 bottom leaves turn brown. Dug my garlic a couple weeks ago. Bulbs, hanging in old panty hose, are curing on front porch.

Starting to get dry. Haven't had a decent rain in weeks. Supposed to rain Saturday and all day Sunday - got 1/10". Going to acreage today, preping to start hauling water to pecans and apple trees planted last year.

We have been using Agway's "Provider" green bean for 27 years now, and before that, my FIL used them for who knows how long. "Provider" is available from many other places as well as Agway.
Only time we've had problems is when we get too much rain after planting them, otherwise they never fail to produce...and multiple times during the season.

I had to replant my green beans.

I think it was just too dry.

The replant was from the same seed, and is up and growing, so it was not a problem with the seed
