Mower Deck ID

Postby tinnerjohn » Wed Apr 08, 2020 7:36 pm

I need some advice on identifying the deck on my 122. As near as I can tell it's a 42" deck. The only nos. I can find is on the left end 473415R1. The ends are I believe cast iron or machined steel (not sheet metal). Three spindles. I looked at the manuals @ CubCadetCollectors.com, just would like to narrow it down so I know what I have. Also, does anyone know if mulching blades are available for this deck? Thanks, John

Your mower deck should look like this one;

Not sure what the serial numbers are, but this was the standard 42" mower deck for the early, narrow-frame Cub Cadets.

You may not be able to find a mulching blade set for your mower deck. But, individual blades are available.

You need information from each blade; length, width, thickness, center hole diameter.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Thanks Eugene, that's it. I went back and found the right manual. My problem was the pictures didn't show any differences in the decks, not a big deal but as I said I like to know what I have, especially when and if I need parts.

Check with Gator blades to see if they have a compatible set of blades. The old CC mower decks were not great at mulching because the decks are so shallow and the blades don't have much pitch to them, and do not create much vacuum. My dad used to use his Cub Cadet original to mulch, just by adding a steel plate to cover the exit chute of the mower. It worked pretty good, and it's probably all you can get out of a CC mower deck. The Gator blades will help, if you can find them. I'd start at their website:

Good luck,
Bill
