Hi all - I'm starting to restore our 1942 M. I've proven out by part number it's the same seat pan as on my 1948 and 1955 FCUB. I'm either going to have the seat reupholstered by Darrel Darst or I'm going to by a new one from Steiner. The current seat is too rusted, cracked and bent to restore.
Do you know what the original seat looked like in 1942? Was it the Gray/Silver burlap with the brass grommet, red/white or black. Those are the three options I can find. The parts manual provides no clue.
Thanks for your help, Ken

Re: 1942 M - Seat Covering
Ken,
These are just my observations and not necessarily definitive or accurate.
1. I don't think there ever were any factory red and white seats.
2. The silver canvas seats came into the inventory in the early to mid 50's.
3. Prior to the silver seats, everything was either black canvas or uncovered.
4. Some or all of the New International Cubs had white vinyl seats.
Jim Becker can probably shed a brighter light on the truth.

I'll second all that and add that I don't think any of the pan seats had a drain hole (grommet) until the Cub got one in '47.

Please let me know how you get the job done. I've been told Darrell is taking some time off right now. I have a Cub seat pan that needs the pattern made, sewed, and crimped on the seat pan. I've tried a couple times and proved unsuccessful and don't want to waste any more fabric.
