My first Farmall tractor

I bought a 45 Farmall B from a neighbor. It starts and runs well. It did not come with any attachments, but we mainly bought it for yard art and fun. I need to fix some small issues such as a leaking valve cover gasket. It grinds when going into gear, I think it may have a bad pilot bearing. I am a mechanic by trade and have found working on tractors more enjoyable than cars as a hobby.

Not likely. Production was shut down in 1943 due to WWII. What is your serial number? Depending on that, we may want to get into casting codes (dates).

I will take a look at the serial number when I get home tonight. I was going off what I was told by the previous owner. I thought it was cool that it was a wartime tractor.

Just looked at the tractor again, the serial number is FAB119910. So from what I have found it would be an early 1945 tractor? It does have a cast shift knob and a magneto

That is right for '45. I think the cast shift knobs came and went depending on rubber supplies. So the cast knob isn't surprising. You should have matching serial and engine numbers. One is stamped into the serial plate, the other stamped into the engine block. If you do look for any date codes, you should find mostly N for '44 and O for '45.

Actually, it looks as if you have a Farmall BN tractor!
The BN is not as wide as the B.

I think a BN would be cool. I just measured the drawbar mounting width 55 3/8" which means it is a B, a BN would measure 47 3/8" according to the service manual

Easiest way to tell is the B seat mount on the right side has a gap between it and the fender.
The BN seat mount is up against the fender like a A or super A!
BN platform is same width as Super A also!
Your tractor looks nice though!
