Magneto winding core

Postby Wylieboy » Tue Aug 18, 2020 9:13 am

Rebuilding the H4 magneto. The core of the winding had buggered up threads, and when I tried to work on it, discovered that the thing is made of laminated layers of metal, not a solid bar. Question is, can I replace it with a simple steel bar?

NO. The laminations are to prevent electrical current from flowing inside the bar. (The individual layers are insulated from each other.) Starter and generator armatures are the same way.

Thanks JB. I got to reading up on it, makes sense now. I contacted the folks at Brillman, and they sold me a “new” one they take out of the ones they rebuild.
