My H sputtered and stop running late last winter. Carb issues. I had bought a used carb at the Ottawa Tractor Show last Fall, cleaned it up, put an overhaul kit in it and it still didn't run. Frustrated. A week ago, after being reminded of its non-running state each time I looked out the dining room window, I went out and shot some starting fluid into the air intake. Each time it fired up, telling me that it was the carb and not a mag or other issue.
Well, this weekend, I removed the overhauled carb and went through it again; sprayed plenty of carb cleaner in it. cut a new gasket and reinstalled it. Opened gas valve, two turns of the hand crank with full choke (switch off), then switch on and next crank VAROOOOOOOM! she roared to life. Didn't skip a beat. Drove it around for 15 minutes just enjoying the ride and the 52 degree F day.
Don't know about you guys, but when a piece of equipment is not working right (when it's supposed to), it feels pretty good when its going again.

That works most of the time, but I learned a couple years ago after fighting one that starting fluid will make one start and run when it's problem is a weak spark.Stanton wrote:.... If you are not part of the solution,

I'll keep an eye to that, John. Good advice. It certainly didn't hesitate, skip, or sputter at all while it was running, which gives me hope it was the carb and not the mag. Time will tell, but thanks again.

Re: Running Again
I think you have the problem solved, but that was intended as a reminder that starting fluid under the right circumstances could mislead anyone working on that problem. Or was that under the wrong circumstances. LOL
