Correct. IIRC there are two.

Thanks, guys. Was frustrated yesterday when this happened; ready to chuck the whole project. After a night sleep, things seem more doable today--as usually is the case. Just frustrated at myself for not filling this thing up sooner, before I got all the nice, shiny sheet metal installed. Now, it's back to disassembly, splitting the tractor and finding those plugs.

Got the AV split and removed the flywheel. This was the condition of the existing freeze plugs:
DSCN2596.JPG

The main water jacket plug had old blue form-a-gasket sealant on it. Looked like it was a source of coolant leaks in the past. I'm ashamed of myself for not questioning the condition/replacement of these before assembly.
DSCN2598.JPG

The old plug was almost rusted through:

DSCN2600.JPG

Went ahead and replaced both:
DSCN2602.JPG

Now I can put the AV back together. I discovered that the guy I had overhaul the engine put the head gasket on upside down and didn't spray it. I ordered a new Fel-Pro gasket and intend to use Copper-Coat. I took the head to a local machine shop and they decked it a couple thousandths of an inch to get it flat.

Looks like the old, smaller one was a Welch plug?

They were both Welch plugs. Got the tractor bolted back together again.

Plan is to drop the oil pan, install the head and fill it up with coolant. Let it sit for at least 48 hours before I refill with oil. Hopefully, no leaks.

Hey, do't be so hard on yourself, you do great work, so you missed some little something, there has been a lot of stuff going on to distract you and everyone else. It's gonna look and be like a new one that just rolled off the line.

Needed to make a new fuel line. Started by duct taping off one end and filling the tube up with sand. The sand in the tube prevents the tube from crimping when bending.

DSCN2607.JPG

Used an old mower deck pulley from a Cub Cadet as a guide. Also used a paper towel cardboard tube to protect my air intake while moving this thing in and out.

Done and installed. Has nice slope to drain all the gas into the fuel bowl.

Got the wiring harness installed yesterday. Decided to go down the right side of the engine where I could take advantage of the space under the battery box and make clips for support.

Didn't have front headlight holders for this AV, so made my own. Found some 5/8"OD x 12" Sch 40 steel nipples online. Had some 16 ga sheet metal, drilled it out and cut into strips, then bent it 90 degrees. The left light holder is about 9" long, so didn't want a wire running exposed out there. Put the wire through the pipe and made a hole in the angle sheet metal at the end. The right light holder was going to be too short to do that.
