New Addition and questions

Just picked up a 1966 Farmall 140. A friend's family used it for years in the garden, then stored it when Mom got too old to garden. It was kept out of the weather reasonably well. including having it completely covered away from the sun. He offered it to me last week, to keep peace in the family I agreed to pay scrap price for it. So far I have performed a complete ignition tune-up, flushed the gas line (no gas was stored in it), checked oil, and cranked it up. It needs more work, but oil pressure was great, ran smooth, but noticeable lack of power when working the hydraulics. I still need to set timing, review carburetor, and insure governor function, etc. Tires on it were new when stored, sheet metal is almost all straight. I will post a picture or two a little later.

Not sure what it's job will be on the farm, but I knew I couldn't pass it up. I've looked into this a bit, but I haven't been able to answer my own question yet. I also recently picked up a Woods 59" mower that was mounted on a Cub. I will have to pick up the mule drive eventually, but I need to replace it with a drawbar (another project). My question is what parts are needed to mount this mower on the 140 with fast hitch? This is the mower with the long "pole" sticking out the back that goes into a corresponding hole in the mule drive, and then I'll need a pulley for the 140 as well. Is it as simple as finding the correct mule drive, or were there other differences in the deck itself to mount it on the 140?

I'll start looking for the right parts if it is straightforward, or I'll direct the mower towards a Cub owner if this is not feasible.

Rick,
I could be way off base on this, but I think the deck with the stinger was only used on the Cub.

From my understanding the decks made for the cub was made for spindle rotation different from the other models.

One model having left hand spindle nuts, and one having right hand spindle nuts.

(Correct me if I am wrong please!)

But I have pondured that a extra twist in the belt prior to the mule drive would correct the rotation direction.

I had totally forgotten about the rotation in the opposite direction! Thanks for the reminder, I think I'll carry on with my plan to rehabilitate the mower for a Cub owner. The 140 will have to wait for another task.

I think you'll be happier. My FIL has a 140 with a Woods mower, it reminds me of trying to swat a mosquito with a 12 gauge.

I will say my 100 is a mowing machine as it can run the 60" mowers in high wet grass where a Cub even with the 2400 RPM motor will have issues.
