I recently took my touch control unit on my Super A and resealed it and changed the filter. After putting it back together the left side control valve is leaking. Do I have to drain all the oil out to pull this out again and swap the o-ring? I think if I pull the rockshaft arms I may be able to sneak it out if I stand on my head to do so. Also I included a picture of what the inside looked like when I had it apart. The filter was torn with a pile of dirt below it. Also I found a weird ball of metal?

Re: Touch Control Question
Sorry, I can not answer your question, but intetesting that it looks like a coil of solid wire or solder in the upper left corner of the cover in the residue.

Re: Touch Control Question
Yeah I’m not sure what it is. At first I thought it may have been part of an old filter spring but, it is much heavier. Also it is almost tied up in a not. I guess I can drain the fluid as it wouldn’t hurt to flush it once more.

Re: Touch Control Question
Looks like it might be junk left over from the sand casting operation.

Re: Touch Control Question
IMHO be quicker and easier to pull it off and fix it that way.

Re: Touch Control Question
Got it back together and so far it isn't leaking. When I first resealed everything there was a lot of air/chattering when I raised and lowered the rear rockshaft arms. I think it may have rolled or messed up the o-ring then because it was kind of square looking when I removed it. When I tried it on round 2, it raised and lowered very smoothly. An engine hoist sure helps on this job.

Re: Touch Control Question
I've had very little luck when it comes to reusing o-rings. I just keep a bunch of different sizes on hand and replace them regardless.

Re: Touch Control Question
I didn't reuse it, I replaced it with a Case IH one from Messicks. The first one was part of the Steiner kit. As much work as it takes to get to the o-ring, I didn't want to guess on putting the wrong one in.
