Just picked up a 1954 100 and one of the issues I have is the hyd oil keeps going down and my engine oil keeps going up. I’m assuming that the hyd pump is leaking oil through to the engine. Shaft seal on the pump maybe?
Any other obvious reason why the oil would go up in the engine? (No it’s not gas filling it)
Thanks

Re: Hyd pump question on my 54 100
Yes, the problem is the seal on the pump shaft.

Re: Hyd pump question on my 54 100
Well that was simple, but expensive. Picked up a new seal for $46.00!!!!! Tiny little seal!!!
Anyway, pulled it apart and the gear was loose and rattling around. The nut was loose and the only thing stopping it from coming off was the flat washer that’s bent.
So, question, since the shaft has ZERO play, everything is tight, could it be leaking because the nut/ gear was loose??
Not pulling the pump apart until I hear back.
(Thought I saw the seal on here for like $7.00 or so. Mind you, that’s US dollars, probably equals 46 Canadian, lol!)

Re: Hyd pump question on my 54 100
Couldn’t wait so I pulled it apart and changed the seal. Ran it for the last hour or so pushing gravel around the driveway. (Truck just dumped off 12 yards)
Worked it for a bit and the hyd starting to jump again and the oil pressure dropped down too. Figured the engine is filling up with 90 weight. Shut it off and the eng oil is on add so I looked and sure enough the front main is leaking. Aarrgg!
Let it cool, check it tomorrow.
Also, is there supposed to be a dipstick on the hyd oil cap? I don’t have one so I filled it until it poured out but it was only about 4 quarts.
Is there somewhere else to check it?

Steiner sells a pump rebuild kit that includes the seal and o-rings for about $50.
Did you use 90 weight oil in the touch control? You should use tractor-rated hydraulic oil.
My 130 has Oil Level Petcocks for the engine oil level and a pipe plug on the fill for the Touch control for the hydraulic oil and no dipstick

Re: Hyd pump question on my 54 100
Thanks inairam yes I used 90 weight gear oil in the hydraulics. It’s down a bit from me filling it to overflowing. Not sure if it’s going on the engine or if the engine smokes but doesn’t use much, lol!
