sight ID of A or superA

Postby Indy4570 » Sat Jan 23, 2021 2:10 am

I have a possible trade working and one of the item they want to trade is an A "cultivision" Ok I know decals were made and they all were called that if the engine was offset and even non offset Bs with the seat offset were called cultivision. But I want to ID this tractor, its lumpy, and repaired in lots of places but it could be an AI as it has the diamond front axle with the brace to the bell housing and the accelerator button. if it has the box looking hydraulic unit thats a touch control and makes it a Super A?

If it has hydraulics, a diamond square shaped axle with a brace and a foot throttle it’s likely an IA.
The serial tag would have FAA IA ******.
If it’s an early A without hydraulics the tag would read IIA (International Industrial A). That same number on an early A will be stamped into the block above and forward of the Magneto.
Some of the Farmall super A’s could be bought with the square axle as well.
If it’s an AV or Super AV (high crop) it automatically had the stronger square axle.
If the one your looking at has the foot throttle between the brake peddles, accelerator button (?) And has the touch control hydraulics yes I’d say you’ve got an International Industrial Super A. A very nice tractor to find.
Also: “Maple hunter“ decals on line has the correct “International “ decal for its hood.

Thanks Mike, I am dealing with small pictures sent to my phone. I have not yet figured out how to get them off the phone to the puter. I see a lot of old fashioned fix's , like the old re-rod stiffener welded to both sides of something that broke. the steering arm looks covered in weld. ( pittman arm? ) the spindle arms look welded up. it will not be a restore unless somebody wants to spend a lot of money for replacement parts. it is bumpy and lumpy from what I can see, lots of dings and dents. the good side, it does look like an AI to me. It has the front weights I have been looking for for my 140. It has rear weights, a rear hitch, a funky front hitch. it has an extra brace as well as the factory brace you get with the industrial diamond axle. it comes with a belly sickle mower, looks like a larger version of a cub sickle mower. and it has an old square brush hog, pull-type with 2 wheels on the back. it is alternator converted, has a list of new parts. I dont really need another tractor, it does not have rear arms for a lift. I see one arm on the left side. A 63 scout and some cash is the part of the trade I like. but I am a sucker for red tractors. again, poor pictures but I was looking for trace bits of yellow, might be some where the front emblem should be. would love to show you guys pics of it but I am "smartphone challenged". I think his valuation with the implements is fair for a working tractor, nothing pretty. he values it with the 2 mowers at 2k

new starter and coil
new battery
new waterpump

new wiring
new exhaust
it has a mason jar air cleaner. tires fair, but worn. It even has the shroud under the pedals. I am waiting on more information on the scout, I will ask for some close up pics Thanks again Mike

A ‘49 with a waterpump? That doesn’t add up.
A’s and Super A’s didn’t have a water pump.
That throws up a red flag on his credibility.
He’s either quoting what he’s be told or he’s a bit of a used car salesmen. ;) No mam this wasn’t a taxi that yellow is a rust preventative primer.:)
New wiring might amount to wiring repair.
Still worth a look but now with an objective eye.

the guy doing the talking, all text, is the son, his father is the owner of the tractor, the scout, a gorgeous chevy dump, 1950 and another gorgeous GMc flatbed, 1.5 tons both, but I have no use for them no matter how pretty. I do have a use for the very clean lil scout and I love red tractors, hopefully there is a pile of cash in the mix coming my way if I say yup. ;)
