I was wondering if anyone can explain the difference in manual versus exhaust hand lift arms

Manual: You push/pull a lever to lift things, assisted only by a spring.
Exhaust: Pressure from the engine exhaust manifold is diverted into a large diameter cylinder that does the lifting.
Most exhaust lift implements have hand levers that are used to set operating depth.
