Bad weekend for springs - now the governor on the 140

Postby inairam » Sun Sep 27, 2020 4:07 pm

Ok So in a recent post I said how I had trouble with a distributor on the new to me 140 and put the distributor from a cub in to get it the fire but it has the wrong springs for the 140. After I got it to fire I noticed it did not respond to the throttle. All of the linkages are free but I could not feel any return from the spring. I thought maybe the spring was broken

I have been in a number of cub governors and a new spring usually tightens this up a great deal. I pulled the governor the spring in the governor appeared long to me but everything appeared in order and free.

I went to cnhistore on line and there are two governor springs listed 364113R1 (15 coils and looks like what was in there) and 369686R2 ( 9 coils and looks a lot like one for the cub and is listed as used on the numbered cubs)

Both are listed for all years.

Anyone know what is correct? The spring is the only thing that does not appear correct to me.

My 140 book still shows 46944DA (which Messick's shows as available). 369686R2 is listed for the 240. I don't know 364113R1 but everyone online acts like it is for a 140. Messick's doesn't show this and the DA number as replacements for each other.

I looked up the c-123 at Messicks and under " the B-44 GOVERNOR AND CONNECTIONS, 140, 140HC TRACTORS AND T-4 CRAWLER TRACTORS" it listed the same two parts numbers 364113R1 and 369686R2 but identifies 364113R1 as for the 140 and the 369686R2 for t-4 crawler application. The case/IH site did not have that added info.
