Question for you A/SA folks...about oil pan/dipstick

Postby Dale Finch » Mon Nov 25, 2019 10:22 am

This '51 SA I am finishing up for Merle...the engine has an oil dipstick (which my old one had) and ALSO has plugs/bolts where I believe the stopcocks would have been installed (also like my old one). However, these happen to be on the RIGHT side of the oil pan, rather than the left. Just curious, did this pan come from a different model tractor?

As you can see, the 2 plugs are at slightly different levels, like the stopcocks would be.

What is the serial number on the engine? With that little elbow on the oil gauge I suspect it's out of a later tractor. Never seen the petcock holes on the other side of the pan like that.

The engine may also be from a power unit. That's the way my SC was set up. Check the engine serial number.

Power unit engines usually have the big starter notch in the rear flange, obvious clue. The elbow strongly suggests a later tractor.
