54 super A Fuel/Electrical??
Starters I'm not a mechanic. I inherited this from my dad after my grandad died, because I have a farm and he lives in the city. To the topic at hand it has ran great in the past but sat up a few years. Tractor has brand new 6v battery, fresh gas, a cleaned carburator and about 80% new electric wires installed. I can get the motor to turn over no issue but cannot get it to fire at all. I have pull started it and it will run for a few seconds and no matter what I do with the choke and throttle cannot keep it running. Last year for christmas I drove this thing to grandpas farm a mile away for christmas pictures with no issues then drove it home and parked it, now no dice. Please help

Is it stored indoors or outdoors? Did you shut the fuel strainer off when you parked it?

It is stored outdoors and fuel was shut off, today I removed the carburator and flushed the fuel line going from tank to carb, I cleaned all the ports and tested the float and jets for clean gas flow and put fresh gaskets on the reinstall

OK. Have you replaced or cleaned the sparkplugs? If that has been done and it still doesn't start, I would clean or replace and set the ignition points. Clean and dress the points with an ignition file. Might as well replace the condenser while you are in there.

Re: 54 super A Fuel/Electrical??
My list of things to look at after these tractors have sat up for a while. First is things your doing, see if it is getting gas, both to carb and from carb. Next is it getting fire. Pull a plug and test it while cranking. Is fire blue or orange/red. If reddish orange then it may be coil, points etc. If blue but still not running right then it might be timing was off. Check timing and see.
PS since you said your NOT familiar with these I need to give tip/warning. Pull plug but while testing make sure it is grounded to engine while you have someone crank it. Wear dry gloves as it shouldn't shock ya, but if plug isn't grounded well and you become the resistor, you may get new hair doo like Albert Einstein so just watch out...
