Super A help
I picked up a super a from my buddy for 750$. A couple days ago he fired it up and it ran for about 30 seconds then stopped and wouldn't start again. I changed the plugs and cleaned the carb. Still won't fire. I hooked a spark plug to the coil out and put it on bare metal. I got a spark a couple times but not as frequent as I expected. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Probably needs a set of points in it.

Re: Super A help
I got a tune up kit that has the points, condenser, cap and rotor. From what I am reading I need to get the motor to top dead center. In the manual it says when the impulse coupling trips the rotor should be pointing to the #1 post. The post is at about 2 o'clock and after mine trips the rotor is at 3 o'clock. Is this where it should be?

Re: Super A help
The #1 post should be wherever the rotor is pointing at TDC. (as a starting point). The impulse should snap right at TDC. I think most end up around 1 o'clock.

So mine might be out of time. The rotor pauses for a second at the post and then moves past it when the impulse coupling trips.

Re: Super A help
I found a video of a magneto rebuild. It looks like she stops after the impulse from the previous cylindar impulse. I think I'm just cranking it past where I should be. I'm going to give it a go after work today. Thanks for the help.

Re: Super A help
So I changed the points wednesday and still no spark. I left it for a few days and when I came home today I decided to tinker a bit. I had spark from the coil then tested each cylindar and had spark on all 4. It fired up for about 2 minutes and then died again. There was some white crusty stuff near the condenser so I cleaned the area and replaced it. The one that came with my tune up kit is a bit shorter than the one that was in it. Any ideas or input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Super A help
I figured it out. I didn't tighten the lower contact for the points enough and it rattled loose. Got everything right and right. She fired on the second crank.
