Barn find 140

Postby Slim140 » Sat Mar 30, 2019 4:13 pm

I’ve never seen this 140 until today. I’ve ask was it for sale many times over the past few years and the answer was always no. This week he came and said he thought he was gonna sell it so I went and looked at it today. I’ll get it to the house in the next week or two. All original, he has the rest of the fast hitch, the hopper, the front cultivator frames, etc. It’s a 1972 model. The sheet metal is as straight as I’ve ever seen on one.

Has both rear lights and the original SMV sign bracket. None of the pedals show any wear.

We’ve made arrangements to get the tractor Tuesday evening, he called me a few minutes ago and said he was bringing me the extra parts. He said he also had some shanks and clamps for the front he has to find. This hopper is nice. The pull bar extension is on the pull bar as well.

Loaded up after work and went after the 140. Took the winch, tools, gas, jumper cables, etc. Put some gas in it and pulled the truck in close enough to hook the cables up. Wound on starter for about 15-20 seconds and realized nothing was happening. I found a piece of sandpaper in the toolbox of the truck (Jim Becker will throat chop me for this) and sanded the points, I know, should have taken a file. Put cap back on and pushed starter button and it fired up. Oil pressure is good. Battery box lid looks new. 3 of the 4 original wing nuts are still intact and all 4 of the stop rods are there.

Looks better in the sun than it did in the shed. Needs a bath now.
