Hello again, I just purchased what appears to be a 1950 cub. The nameplate has been painted over but i can almost make out the numbers 107254. if i can remove the paint i will vfy. I had to sell my last cub, but now i have another project. Thanks in advance because i am sure i will be asking for advice in the near future.

Re: hello again
Hi,
The Cub looks good in your picture.
I noticed in your picture that possibly the clutch pedal return spring is broken or gone.
The pedal should be up against the edge of the platform, like the brake pedals are.
It might just be the pic making it look that way, I'm not sure.
Hold the clutch pedal and see if it raises up more.
The spring holds the pedal up against the platform edge.
Without the spring, there is no clutch pedal free play, the throwout bearing is always rubbing on the pressure plate fingers, that can wear the bearing material.
Below is a listing at TM Tractor for a new spring.
The brake pedals should have them also.
I would paint the spring before putting it on, so it doesn't rust.
To install it, I put it in the front hole first, then put a Vise Grip pliers on the rear straight part of the spring, and stretch it so it goes in the rear place for the spring.
Get the pliers tight on the spring, so it doesn't slip off.
Wear gloves so you don't bang your hands on things if the pliers slip off the spring.
The pliers with the straight jaws work better when I have done that.
The place made in the platform for the end of the spring may have dirt in it, and need cleaning, so the spring end will go in it.

If the battery cable or wiring are in the original positions under the platform, be sure they don't rub on the spring after putting the spring on.

I could not say tractor when I was 2 years old so I called it Err Err.
I loved this tractor then and I still love it now. - Circle of Safety: Y

Good catch. Looks to me like the left brake pedal may be bent up, bringing it out of line from the other 2 pedals. Again, may just be the picture.

Hi,
You saw something I didn't notice Jim.
It's hard to see it in a pic.
The left brake pedal might be bent, or the right brake pedal might have no return spring.
