Hi All,
I recently picked up a lo-boy 185, looking forward to use it to mow here on the farm. When purchased, it was having an issue with the throttle (it seems to pull the throttle lever down as you drive it). In my attempts to remove the steering wheel so i could remove the dash and replace the throttle cable, I managed to bungled up the threads on the steering shaft. Luckily I was able to find a new (to me) steering shaft. So it looks like i will be going from a simple cable replacement to a cable and steering shaft replacement. I guess as is, with all projects, I start messing with one thing end up doing 5 more.
Anyhow, I a happy to be here and looking forward to learning and hopefully I can share my knowledge and experience.
Thanks all.

You may not need to replace that cable. Look down on the right side of the throttle lever, with a flashlight. You should see a small nut on the lever pivot. With a small ignition wrench, you can tighten the nut to increase the friction. The lever needs quite a bit of pre load to resist the forces from the governor. Welcome to the forum!

Thanks Gary!
I believe the cable is to short. The end of the cable that goes into the governor spring arm had no excess on the outside end. There is no tolerance for adjustment and you could only move the throttle to about the half way point. Guessing it broke off at some point.

I think Gary is talking about an adjustment under the dash at the back of the cable. The length of the cable shouldn't matter to that adjustment.

Thanks Jim,
I understand the point. About adjusting the throttle lever to the mounting bracket. Guessing my description of the cable length was not clear enough or I am missing something entirely. Even with the tractor off, you are unable to push the throttle lever to the fully opened position. It will not move past the half way point. There is no additional cable on the opposite end that connects to the spring arm, in my opinion, the cable needs to be replaced anyhow because it is too short.

Re: New Member from NC
If the throttle isn't opening enough and if the cable adjustment is the problem, shouldn't you need to shorten it rather than lengthen? Maybe you have a problem with the governor spring, in the governor, or in the linkage from the governor to the carburetor.

I can look at it again after work today before church, but if memory serves me (Which it never does) with the throttle lever in the lowest position the cable is at it's longest. the gov arm was lifted to about half open. but will check again.
Also will take a look at the governor in total this weekend.
