Good morning all,
After a couple of months of browsing and going through this site, I now know I need to become a member here. This site is solid gold for experience, know how and a passion for Cubs. I've been actively looking for a late model Cub for mowing and gardening without much luck. I had a longstripe Y&W Cub in about '95 that I let slip away when my uncle would contact me every other day wanting mine and I gave in. He eventually gave it to his grandson who promptly got rid of it without me knowing. Oh well, serious lesson learned. Until that day comes when I find another one, I'll continue reading and digesting the great posts and replies. Thank you, Dennis Reid

Re: New Member from S. Louisiana
You might put on your calendar a great Cubfest next year in Bogalusa, LA, (usually in March). It's a 2 or 3-day event where Farmall folks gather to work on each other's tractors, give advice, eat great food and tell tall tales!!
Tractors & implements often change hands as well... sometimes coming from great distances via "Cub Express". So if you haven't found a Cub before then, you might have a chance of having one brought down to you. And if you have found one, you could take it to the LA Cubfest to get help with any issues you might have with it!
While you're "strolling" through the forum, check out the HOW TO section...full of great info. And when you start looking at cubs to buy, review this post:

Welcome to the group. Since you are only 2two hours from Bogalusa, I agree with Dale about attending that CubFest.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Howdy from south Mississippi,
Though I don't think I've ever stopped by your town I probably went close by on highway 90 on my way from Homa to Corpus Christi. Your under 2 hrs from me as the crow flies. Welcome and after you post 2 times you can access the PDF files. Lots of info there on cubs, implements etc. There's owners manuals, repair and parts manuals. Once you can access them click on the 3 bars in the very top left corner. Scroll down to the PDF option and have fun.

Welcome to the Forum, Dennis!
Take some time and read through a few threads to acquaint yourself with the Forum:
As BullDAWG mentioned, after you’ve logged your 2nd post on the Forum, you'll have access to the all the PDF Manuals on this site. There’s a few ways to do that:
You'll be able to download an Owner's Manual (very strongly recommended) and any service manuals that interest you. Implement Manuals are also available.
Since you're on the search for another Cub, there are several threads in the How To Forum>Miscellaneous Ideas that may help in your selection/decision. Located here: http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=145
Once you've bought a Cub, as a reminder of what to do when you bring it home, you might find this beneficial: What to do with a Cub you just brought home
There are a lot of good threads dealing with Cub repair and maintenance in the How To Forum. Located here: http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=11
We’d encourage you to take the Safety Test located in the Safety Forum: http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=68084
There should be a serial number plate, located on the front, right side of the tractor where the steering rod connects to the front end. That number may be entered in the "What Year is My Cub?" category located here: http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/app.php/page/cub-information
There are also casting dates on your cast iron pieces that you may cross reference here: http://www.tmtractor.com/id/id_001.htm
Once acquired, take some pictures of your new-to-you tractor and post them, we’d like to see them.
Remember:
Glad you joined us.

- From a desktop or laptop, go to "Quick Links" in the upper left corner of your screen. Hit that and a pull-down appears where you'll find "PDF Manuals".
- You can also go to “Cub Info” in the upper toolbar, then hit “Rudi’s Manuals”. From there, you can access a variety of information.
- If you're using a phone, go to the "Links Directory" (second category down the main page). Once in "Links Directory" , scroll down to the second section "Tractor Parts & Manuals" and you'll find them there.

Wow, thank you gentlemen, I do feel welcomed. I've been working on finding a late model longstripe and tomorrow morning I'm on my way about 4.5 hours away to pick one up. Wish me luck!
Thank you,
Dennis

Re: New Member from S. Louisiana
Don't be in a rush, make sure no castings are cracked/welded. Must run or only pay just above scrapyard price. Remember tires were expensive even before Biden jacked up the prices of everything. If tire are at 50% then take at least $300 off price. Another tip is have different amounts of cash in different pockets. Say asking price is $2500. Have $1800 in wallet. Offer that. Then have say $200 in front pocket. If he doesn't go for 18 try $2000. Count bills in front of em. Cash in hand is better than someone saying they'll pay ya x-dollars.
