Recommended source for Sickle Knives & rivets

Postby inairam » Wed Aug 23, 2017 6:38 am

Does anyone have a recommended source for Sickle Knives & rivets?

What about the pro / cons of smooth vs serrated edges?

I am not cutting hay. I plan to use to trim edges of creeks and a pond

Thank you

Yup, nothing special about the sections or rivets. Industry standard, available at any farm supply or machinery dealer.

I think the types of sections depend on what you re cutting, but I've always used top serrated sections because serrated sections stay sharp throughout their lifespan. Smooth sections can be sharpened but then you have to sharpen them.

Like Don said, TSC does carry them. However, if store near you is like mine, they will have one box of ten knives in stock. Also, my store only had 15/16" rivets for the long ones needed. They will work as is, but not real purty when done. Or you could cut them to length

ALso if youre not too good on setting rivets its a lot easier to buy rivet bolts and nuts. Just remember to change to the high arch holdowns.

This family business has quite a selection of service parts that they manufacture. Nice adjustable hold-downs. Webb Cutting Components

We have serrated sections on our swathers and, to be honest, don't notice much difference in cutting finish compared to normal sections. My guess is they might have a more aggressive cut so they don't clog as easy.

Does anyone know of those sickle knives will also fit to the French Cubs?
