Final drive swap
I have a final drive with one implement mounting pad completely missing. The hole is taped completely through and a bolt is being used as a plug. This worked acceptably with a modified drawbar mount for light use. However, I am going to be using it with other implements and a heavier load. I am thinking about exchanging the whole final drive and axle assembly. The parts book shows some changes were made through the years on the internal parts. The existing one is a 350806R2. Are all versions compatible for a complete swap or must I limit the search to certain versions?

Re: Final drive swap
Others can answer more certainly, but I think any final drive from the same side from any year Cub (not Loboy) should work fine for you.

Re: Final drive swap
The brakes were changed in later years. If you use one with a different brake you will have to change the brake pad and rod as well. Left and right are the same so you can swap sides. You do not have to look for the side you need since the other side is the same.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Final drive swap
The left and right housings are the same. But the upper and lower shafts are different from side to side. There are two styles of brakes, as shown above. But I believe you can use the early brakes (like yours) inside the later style housing. There may be some detail like maybe using the anchor pin from the later brakes. I'm pretty sure I did it some time in the past.
The bottom line, you can (or at least most likely can) use any final drive housing. But finding the early style from the same side will make things a lot easier.
