I have a 1948 Cub with later model (spring helper) Fast Hitch. I really enjoyed restoring it this past winter. I am setting it up for a small acreage. Looks like I can get everything I need except a post hole auger. I will need to drill many holes as I set up fence, plantings, etc.
Any ideas or experience on the best way to add an auger?
Looks like the Prewitt auger is pretty much unobtainium.
I appreciate any ideas

For a one time project, I would suggest renting a self powered one.

Or, if you know someone, who has one, see if you can hire him for a few hours to drill them all at once.

Re: Post hole auger
I partnered with my brother and we bought a Deere 8875 skidloader, then a auger for it!
But for putting fence posts in I got a 3pt Shaver hd-10 post pounder.
There is no comparison between a post set with a post pounder vs a post set in a hole dug with a auger!
A 8-9" diameter black locust post, 9' long driven 4' in the ground will hold a 12' gate with no other support (in my ground)!
Our skidloader can lift 4000# with the pallet forks.
But it can not pull one of those locust rounds out of the ground once set with the pounder!
Cubs are great for cultivating and pulling a hay wagon, digging potatoes and bringing in some vegetables on the carry-all!

Re: Post hole auger
You didn't state the total length of fence, purpose of the fence, type of fence, or soil condition.
AG fences are usually wood corner and brace posts and steel T posts for the line fence.
If you are not digging to many post holes. https://www.lowes.com/pd/43cc-One-Man-A ... lsrc=aw.ds
This part of Missouri we use the backhoe to dig holes for seedling trees. Got more rocks than soil.

Re: Post hole auger
My thoughts are along the same line as Eugene commented. It depends a lot on what "many" is and what type soil you are on. I have set over 30 posts (4" x 8') 2 feet deep into sandy soil. Granted, the most i did at one time was a little over half of them. But I just dig the holes with a shovel. Yes, any sort of auger would have dug the holes quicker. But not if you added in time to either mount a digger on a tractor or go rent/return a rental auger. This does not include t-posts that I drive in for corners around my garden or the light duty steel posts in the straight stretches between the t-posts.

Re: Post hole auger
I appreciate the input
Looks like no real good solutions for Cub mounted digger
I will probably go the rental or hand dig route

Re: Post hole auger
Another type post hole auger. https://www.zoro.com/seymour-midwest-au ... gLID_D_BwE
Its fast in soil without a lot of rocks.
Worked one fall until ground froze for an individual who commercially installed fence. Some of the fence lines were a mile long. Anyway, there are commercial firms that install fences.

A cub pto turns at motor speed and backwards I'm not sure you can use one on a cub without a reverser despeeder.

This may be of interest. The last I knew, this digger was in New Brumswick, Canada.
